Two men are behind bars without bail after a brutal assault and robbery in Rio Linda last month, according to a Tuesday release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Treat and Samuel Mattia were arrested for their roles in the May 24 attack. Deputies responded to a home near Elkhorn Boulevard and Marysville Boulevard after a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot and cries for help.
At the scene, deputies found a man with a gunshot wound to the face. He was with another man, later identified as Robert Treat.
The victim told deputies he was there to view a tent trailer listed for sale when Samuel Mattia suddenly shot him in the face. After the shooting, both Mattia and another individual allegedly beat him with baseball bats. Mattia then stole the victim’s wallet and car keys, fleeing in his vehicle. A friend of the victim, who had remained inside the car, was later located unharmed.
Deputies soon spotted the stolen car and tried to stop it. Mattia fled on foot but was captured and arrested on multiple felony charges.
Treat was initially detained at the scene. Following an investigation by Robbery Detectives confirming his role in the assault, a warrant was issued for his arrest. The Sheriff’s North POP (Problem Oriented Policing) team later executed a search warrant at the crime scene to collect further evidence.
Both suspects remain in Sacramento County Main Jail. Treat’s court appearance is scheduled for June 20, while Mattia is due in court on July 10.
