A Louisiana woman and two men she allegedly recruited have been indicted in the shooting death of her ex-boyfriend, according to law enforcement.
Subrina Honore, 32, was named in a superseding indictment filed June 5, linked to the January killing of Jonathan Brookin, also 32. Brookin, a father of five, was shot during a confrontation that reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the paternity of Honore’s baby. According to court records cited by Nola.com, Honore allegedly made threats on social media, including a chilling post hours before the shooting that read, “I got time today, [expletive]. I’m coming to your house.”
Confrontation Turns Deadly
On Jan. 27, Brookin was at a female friend’s home with her two young children, ages 5 and 6. Around 6 p.m., Honore allegedly arrived at the house, upset about a birth certificate she believed Brookin had. The friend told police that Brookin was in the garage with the door open when Honore confronted him.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Ryan Vaught testified in February that Brookin may never have had the birth certificate in question. Despite being asked to leave multiple times, Honore reportedly refused. Soon after, the friend said she saw two armed men — including Arthur Thomas, 31 — get out of a nearby vehicle. Fearing for her safety, she ran inside and hid with her children.
After the gunfire ceased, the woman saw Brookin lying on the ground, bleeding. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shots Fired by Three Suspects
Vaught told the court that the investigation revealed gunfire from three individuals. Brookin, reportedly armed with a rifle, may have fired in self-defense before being shot fatally in the head. Honore later told authorities Brookin shot first before she fled the scene with Thomas and the second alleged gunman.
According to Vaught’s testimony, Honore had asked Thomas to help her confront Brookin and allegedly contacted another man involved in the shooting. Brookin’s sister confirmed to Nola.com that Honore had been issuing threats against him throughout the week leading up to the fatal incident.
Four Arrested in Connection to the Murder
Honore and Thomas were arrested the day after Brookin’s death and charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Two other men — Jatary Joseph, 32, and Jjaun Jasmin, 34 — were also arrested on the same charges, though police have not detailed their roles in the incident.
