When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a woman deceased from a gunshot wound. After speaking with witnesses, investigators obtained a description and license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle.

The vehicle was later discovered unoccupied behind Christian Hill Church. A search of the surrounding area led officers to the suspect, who was found in nearby woods with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect was transported in critical condition to a local hospital by AAA Ambulance Service.

Captain Pete Williams of MCSO confirmed the incident appears to be domestic in nature and assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

MCSO expressed gratitude to the Columbia Police Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Hattiesburg Police Department, the coroner’s office, constable, and district attorney’s office for their assistance in the ongoing investigation.
