In the early hours of Saturday, June 22, a deputy with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Interdiction Task Force pulled over a white Chevrolet SUV on Highway 49 near Highway 80 in Pearl, Mississippi, after noticing the vehicle was unable to stay in a single lane.
The driver, identified as John Jermaine Norman, a resident of South Carolina, raised suspicion during the interaction. The deputy requested and received permission to search the vehicle.
During the search, authorities discovered a man-made, aftermarket compartment inside the SUV, which contained 20 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
Norman was immediately arrested for Trafficking a Controlled Substance and taken to the Rankin County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond pending his initial court appearance.
