As of today, Wednesday, June 25, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is distributing average payments of $2,000 to eligible beneficiaries. This marks the final round of scheduled benefits for the month of June 2025.
Additionally, some Social Security benefits will receive a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in December 2025.
Today, many individuals receiving Social Security retirement benefits in the United States are poised to receive their latest monthly disbursement. The SSA is set to issue the next batch of retirement checks according to the established payment schedule for this month. Furthermore, payments for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits are also being distributed today.
Eligibility for Payments on June 25
Among the approximately 70 million individuals who receive retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits in the U.S., most receive their payments on one of three designated Wednesdays each month. The specific Wednesday assigned to each beneficiary is determined by their birth date.
On this day, the SSA will issue benefit checks to those whose birthdays fall between the 21st and the 31st of any month. This represents the last round of Wednesday payments for June, following previous distributions on the 11th and 18th.
Wednesday Payment Schedule for June 2025:
– June 11: Recipients born from the 1st to the 10th
– June 18: Recipients born from the 11th to the 20th
– June 25: Recipients born from the 21st to the 31st
Payments Outside the Standard Schedule
Individuals who began receiving retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits prior to May 1997 typically receive their payments on the third day of each month, regardless of their birth date. Additionally, recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) — a distinct SSA program aimed at low-income individuals aged over 65 or those with disabilities — generally receive their payments on the first day of each month.
For those who qualify for both SSI and other SSA benefits, payments are usually disbursed on the first and third days of the month, respectively. However, due to June commencing on a Sunday, this month’s SSI payments were expedited to Friday, May 30.
Non-Wednesday Payment Schedule for June 2025:
– May 30: SSI recipients
– June 3: Social Security recipients prior to May 1997
If an individual receives both types of benefits, they received their SSI payment on May 30 and their Social Security payment on June 3.
