The Department of Public Safety (DPS) joined forces with the Live Oak Sheriff’s Office to break up a human smuggling operation that involved 25 undocumented migrants.
According to a post shared by the U.S. Border Patrol Laredo Sector on Facebook Wednesday, June 25, the incident happened off Highway 59.
The post confirmed the arrest of 25 undocumented migrants and said the driver now faces a third-degree felony charge for smuggling persons—a crime that carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The group of migrants included individuals from Turkey, Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, and India.
Officials added that all those arrested were charged with illegal entry.
