Laredo police are investigating the death of a 41-year-old man who was found unresponsive Tuesday morning, June 24, on the 3200 block of Pinder Avenue in west Laredo.
According to police, the man’s relatives discovered him around 9 a.m. and immediately began CPR while waiting for emergency crews. Authorities say initial signs suggest a possible overdose, though the official cause of death hasn’t been confirmed.
Webb County Medical Examiner Dr. Corrine Stern stated that an autopsy has been scheduled, with results expected within two weeks. While fentanyl-related deaths have recently declined, she noted that other drugs remain a serious threat in the area.
“So it seems in the first half of this year, especially compared to the first half of last year, it does seem that the numbers are lower,” Stern said. “We’re definitely seeing fewer fentanyl overdoses or fewer drug overdoses in which fentanyl is one of the drugs. So, yes, we are seeing the numbers come down.”
Despite the drop in fentanyl cases, Stern added that heroin and cocaine now appear more frequently in fatal overdoses.
The investigation remains active, and the man’s identity has not been released.
