A Mississippi man was arrested after police discovered 44 pounds of cocaine concealed in his SUV during a late-night traffic stop.
Around 1:00 a.m., an officer spotted a white Chevrolet Tahoe swerving erratically on Highway 49 near Highway 80 in Pearl, Mississippi. The SUV veered into the officer’s lane, nearly hitting the patrol car. The officer then initiated a traffic stop, and the driver—identified as John Jarmaine Norman—pulled over without incident.
According to WAPT, Norman appeared visibly nervous during the interaction, raising the officer’s suspicions. Although there was no immediate evidence of illegal activity, Norman gave verbal consent for a vehicle search.
During the search, the officer discovered a custom-built aftermarket compartment inside the SUV containing over 44 pounds of cocaine. Authorities estimate the drugs have a street value exceeding $1 million.
Norman was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance. It remains unclear whether he was under the influence at the time of the stop.
