Myanmar authorities destroyed narcotic drugs and precursors valued at 297.95 million USD on June 26, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, according to a police report.
The seized drugs and materials, collected from across the country, were incinerated in three major cities: Yangon, Mandalay, and Taunggyi.
The destruction comes amid rising concerns over drug trafficking in the region. In May, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) reported that methamphetamine seizures in East and Southeast Asia hit a record high in 2024, totaling 236 tonnes—a 24% increase compared to the previous year.
