The Israeli military announced it killed a senior Hamas commander in an airstrike on Gaza City, describing him as a key player in the group’s operations and planning of the October 7 attack on southern Israel.
In a statement released Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) identified the commander as Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa. The strike, carried out Friday evening in Gaza’s Sabra neighbourhood, was coordinated with the Shin Bet domestic security agency.

According to the IDF, Al-Issa co-founded Hamas’ military wing and played a central role in the October 7 assault, during which militants killed approximately 1,200 people and took over 200 hostages.
The military further claimed he oversaw Hamas’ aerial and naval operations and was actively involved in rebuilding its infrastructure amid the ongoing war. He previously led the group’s training command and was a member of its general security council.
Al-Issa was considered one of the last remaining senior Hamas figures still active in Gaza, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency.
So far, Hamas has not issued a response to Israel’s claim.
Separately, the Israeli army reportedly launched strikes on central Gaza, including the village of Al-Masdar, as well as areas east of Jabalia in northern Gaza, WAFA news agency reported, as cited by Xinhua.
