A Northern California man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly firing a gun at his neighbor’s residence, prompting a standoff with law enforcement.

According to the Galt Police Department (GPD), officers responded around 4:22 a.m. to the 400 block of N. Lincoln Way following reports of a shooting. The victim told police their upstairs neighbor approached their front door, brandished a handgun, fired a round at the door, and then returned to his apartment. Fortunately, no one inside was injured.

Ring camera footage captured the incident, and authorities quickly secured the area with help from the Elk Grove Police Department, establishing a perimeter and assisting residents in evacuating or sheltering in place.

SWAT officers issued multiple commands urging the suspect to surrender. A short time later, the man exited his apartment and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Javier Ordaz, 40, of Galt. Investigators obtained a search warrant and recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting. The firearm was reported stolen, and Ordaz was found to be a convicted felon with prior robbery convictions, police said.

Ordaz was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges including:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon

  • Shooting at an inhabited dwelling

  • Felon in possession of a firearm

He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 1.
