By rule, SSI payments are always issued on the 1st of the month, unless the date falls on a weekend or holiday.

SSI serves over 7.4 million people nationwide. Unlike retirement or disability benefits (SSDI), SSI does not require prior payment of Social Security taxes. It’s a needs-based program funded by general tax revenues.
You may qualify for SSI if you:
-
Are age 65 or older
-
Have a qualifying disability
-
Meet strict income and asset limits
How Much Do SSI Beneficiaries Receive?
According to the SSA’s latest figures:
-
The average monthly SSI payment is $718.30
-
The maximum monthly benefit is:
-
$967 for individuals
-
$1,450 for eligible couples
-
In some states, beneficiaries may also receive additional payments—visit the SSA’s website to see if your state offers this.
