An Indiana man has been charged with murder months after allegedly shooting his girlfriend’s new partner in a fit of jealousy.
Jeremy Jett, 19, was arrested and charged with the April killing of 26-year-old Darius Timberlake in Lawrence, Indiana. According to court documents obtained by WXIN, Jett allegedly opened fire after discovering Timberlake in bed with his girlfriend. The girlfriend told police that Jett was “jealous” and had accused her of cheating.
Police responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m. on April 23, finding Timberlake dead from multiple gunshot wounds. A person of interest was initially detained for questioning, but authorities withheld details until Jett was arrested more than two months later.
Prosecutors allege that Jett arrived at his girlfriend’s home, found her in bed with Timberlake, and confronted the two. A fight reportedly broke out over a firearm before Jett fatally shot Timberlake.
Court documents reveal Jett waited over 30 minutes before calling 911. He allegedly told dispatchers the shooting was accidental. However, his girlfriend contradicted that account. According to the probable cause affidavit, she told police Jett was furious, accusing her of cheating and repeatedly asking, “Why are you laid up next to him?”
Further evidence raised doubts about Jett’s version of events. Investigators said he messaged a friend on Instagram before his arrest, saying he planned to claim self-defense.
Jett is facing one count of murder and is currently being held at Marion County Jail without bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
